What is an arm lift?

Arm lift surgery, medically known as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to address sagging or excess skin on the upper arms. This often occurs due to factors like aging, significant weight loss, or genetics. During the surgery, a skilled plastic surgeon makes incisions on the inner or back of the upper arms, carefully removing surplus skin and fat. The remaining skin is then skillfully re-draped and tightened, resulting in smoother and more toned arms. Arm lift surgery can significantly enhance arm contours, boost self-confidence, and restore a more youthful appearance. It's an ideal choice for individuals looking to achieve firmer and more aesthetically pleasing upper arms.

I'm afraid about the scar; are there any alternative options?

There is another option available. We can perform arm liposuction using Vaser and J-Plasma. These devices can assist in tightening the skin after liposuction. This approach allows us to address excess fat without the need for cutting or lifting. It's a suitable option for individuals with moderate arm fat and good skin quality. However, a thorough consultation is essential to determine if this option is suitable for you. When the skin is already loose, the most effective option is an arm lift surgery, which may involve a scar.

I require an arm lift. What can be done to enhance the appearance of the scar?

Your concern about scarring is completely understandable and a common one among patients considering surgery. I am dedicated to providing the best care not only during the surgery but also in the post-operative healing process, especially in managing scars. We utilize advanced laser therapies to aid in scar reduction and healing. During surgery, we use the Urgotouch laser, which is designed to minimize scarring as the incisions heal. Post-surgery, we offer treatments with a CO2 laser, a technology known for its effectiveness in improving the appearance of scars by promoting skin resurfacing and regeneration. Additionally, I offer innovative options like stem cell therapy with SVF (Stromal Vascular Fraction) and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) treatments after the surgery. These therapies utilize your body's natural healing mechanisms to further enhance the healing process and improve the appearance of scars. Stem cell therapy with SVF involves using your own cells to encourage tissue regeneration, while PRP involves using the growth factors in your blood to promote healing and skin quality.

Should I do babies before my arm lift?

A frequent question we encounter from women considering arm lift is whether they should have children before undergoing the procedure. This is an important consideration, as pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect the size and shape of the body fat repartition, potentially altering the results of the surgery.  If you plan to have children in the near future, you may wish to postpone the surgery until after completing your family. However, if pregnancy is not planned for several years, you might choose to proceed with the surgery.

When can I resume sport activities?

It's important for patients to understand that the recovery period can vary, and returning to physical activity should be a gradual process. Typically, light activities, such as walking, can be resumed within a few days post-surgery, aiding circulation and recovery. However, it's crucial to avoid strenuous activities, especially those that involve the chest muscles like weight lifting for at least four to six weeks. This allows the body to properly settle and the incision sites to heal. High-impact activities, such as running or jumping, should be reintroduced slowly and only after one month after the surgery.

What are the risks of an arm lift?

Arm lift surgery, like any surgical procedure, carries certain risks. These may include infection, bleeding, adverse reactions to anesthesia, or the possibility of scarring. In specific cases, there may be risks associated with poor wound healing or changes in sensation. To minimize these risks, it's crucial to choose a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon and follow their post-operative instructions diligently. While complications are relatively rare, being well-informed and prepared is essential for a successful and safe arm lift surgery. Your surgeon will discuss these risks in detail during your consultation.
